Here is a PV pre-amp from one of there small SS amps that is 20 years old. Interesting to see how the big dogs do it.  It starts with a refined/enhanced Tube Screamer into a refined/enhanced Fender/Marshal tonestack into what amounts to a Distortion +.  It uses the ever popular 4558 op-amp.  Might be some TS mods to be had.   When the PV Bandits first came out, I thought they were the only decent sounding SS amps I had ever heard. This one is more refined.  If I had known then what I know now...   :icon_cool:

Anyone know what they use in their new stuff?

I used to have a Bandit 75 in my early days of playing.  Had it until college and traded with another guy for his Bandit 125.  Good amps.  After moving west I had my parents donate it to my high school's music program.

Their new stuff is pretty darn nice.

My understanding is the later models use the "transtube" technology; from about mid 90's to now.  This is PV's attempt at providing more of a tube emulation than straight out clippers.  There's a patent for it showing JFET/BJT stages and one-direction diode clippers on the base/gate to emulate the tube grid, the stages operate at relatively high voltages.  They may have refined the circuit since then.  I was hoping I would come across a schematic one day.

Did somebody has seen the transtube circuit?

I used to work for them for a while, mostly as a demonstrator at trade shows and
"in house" training sessions, this was for the Digital/Hi-Tech products, until about
2001.
They made some fantastic gear, transtube seemed to sound awesome and they did very
well with it.
You have to see past the "Mom and Pop store" thing with Peavey stuff - lot's more going
on under the hood than you would give credit for ... ! :D

WGTP, do you have the whole thing?
i would like to see the "BACKSTAGE" circuit.

Peavey had these modeling amps called the Transformer line. Supposed to be an 'analog-based' modeling amp. Sort of a cult following for these amps, because they've been discontinued. Supposed to blow away the Cyber-Twins and the like.

I only have a paper copy of the scheme.  It says TransTube pre-amp, as if they are all similiar.  Sorry I can't post.  Check with PV.   :icon_cool:
