Hi Everybody!
I have an old TC 4X9v powersupply, that i've converted to 2x9 + 2x18 v by checking one owned by a friend
and changing a few components(voltage regulator and a few diodes).
However it sends out 19,5v instead of 18. Will this hurt my old MXR analog delay and my Fulltone OCD?
Kind regards Jesper

  If components see voltages which exceed their rated values, damage may ensue.
  I don't think you have to worry about resistors, diodes, but actives and caps [especially caps I guess...data sheets on what's in there?]...will require a voltage rating greater than the voltage they will 'see'.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Hi Pete
I better be cautious then. Thanks

Not long ago there was thread here on the topic of how many DCV a power supply REALLY puts out once hooked up to the circuit. I don't remember exactly, but I think the consensus was that in most cases what you get without load is considerably higher, so maybe you're safe (or at least not as bad off as you thought).  :icon_smile:

Not that I would want you to fry your pedal  :icon_eek:

if it's not regulated than voltage without load will be higher...

Thanks Everybody!
Before i made the modification, i tried hooking the pedals up with my friends tc 2x9/2x18v supply,
and everything was fine. He just called and told me that he measured 19,8 v!!
I now feel confident enough to try, as mine puts out 19,37v to be exact.
By the way: do you think 80 mA is enough to drive a wah, a fuzz, OCD and MXR delay?
kind regards Jesper

its definatley enough for the first 3, not sure on the delay though

at least check the voltage rating of capacitors on your pedals. you shouldn't connect 19V to any 16V rated caps.  i'll just guess that most of the opamps and transistors that are mentioned in our conversations tolerate more than 19V.

to be absolutely shure your resistors should be (P = U2/R:
1W    ->  all under 400 ohms
1/2W -> 400 - 800 ohms
1/4W -> 800 - 1k6

and check the datasheets of all active components for voltage ratings.

Hi
I tried the stuff out today, an everything worked out just fine.
Thanks everybody!
