DOD Flanger 640 whine

I recently reattached the power cord to my old Flanger 640 and am now experiencing a sort of feedback/whine that builds after a few seconds of switching the effect on - has anyone experienced this phenomenon, and would know why might it occur?

I have a Fender box (chorus/flange/etc...) that does that when the battery is getting low.

But yours is using electrical power, so it can't be that. Maybe that it would be worth checking the supply voltage first.
