Wired my Ross Compressor switches etc to board, inserted my newly arrived LM3080 plugged in the battery to test the LED and switch.  I noticed the acrid smell of petrochemical...Hey is my IC supposed to smoke like that...Oh sh**t.   :o  By the time I turned off the switch the thing had seperated from its little legs  :icon_sad:

Luckily I ordered 4 of them.  I am kind of hesitant to put another one in so I will be checking the voltages to the socket.

Not familiar with the circuit, but check the value of the resistor to the Iabc pin, or for a short to this pin.

The acrid smell of petrochemical.... that must be what most of us know as 'the magic smoke'. You let the magic smoke escape from any dinghy (be it a chip, a diode or a transformer) and you will have to face the consequences.

Sorry for being of no help though. :D

All it takes is 2ma into the Iabc pin to fry a 3080.

The FIRST resistor I always solder in any circuit using a 3080 is the 27k off the Iabc port (pin 5). 27k if you are using 9V.

Yeah, I used perfboard to do it.  I don't realy trust it with my skills so I made a PCB based on GEOFX layout and will resolder everything and check the voltages.
