  Anything, But...
Bass tends to be higher output than guitar, and...you guessed it...has more bass content...some of the voicing caps [series in signal path] you may want to 'increase to include' or 'decrease to exclude' some of these lower frequencies.
Distortions may tend to sound buzzy, probably because of the increased *units of time between +/- signal peaks @ *lower frequencies. The Bazz Fuss and BMP have been reportedly liked for bass Dist.
Another plan I haven't presued is...split the signal into HF's and LF's, treat the highs to distortion, treat the lows to compression or just clean, mix the results back together [or use two amps] and have nice low end definition, high end with 'added' content via clipping/distortion.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

My bass player friend has had my scrambler build for about a week now and I don't think that I will ever get it back. He says that the blend function is perfect for his sound. he uses a fretless and does some weird stuff with it I'm sure. So far he tells me that running a turbo rat into it is especially devastating and that the scrambler by itself is his fav pedal ever. I built it stock (as per GGG) so the caps aren't specifically designed for bass but it makes no diffrence to him. I told him that I could mod it for bass and he told me I was crazy. It's arether easy build too.

If you build a bass paralooper (www.moosapotamus.net), you can blend an effects loop with your original bass signal. I'm in the process of debugging mine  ;D

Oh yes they are! And for that matter the reissue is now being sold as a bass distortion/octaver. Ampeg was primarily a bass oriented company. (peg bass...) Even their guitar amps were just bass amps with reverb.

As a bass player I can give you these suggestions:

Distortion+. Raise the input cap.
Big Muff.
Ross compressor.(you didn't list a compressor, really should have one!)
Phase 90. But you have a phaser.
Yes, yes, some sort of envelope filter!
Hog's foot!(easy easy build, great effect for bass)
Brassmaster or gruntbox- makes ya sound like a tuba!
Small Clone chorus.(not easy, better to just buy, excellent for bass)
Controfuzz.
Harmonic jerkulator.
Acoustic 360 preamp.

Do a search, or look in the layouts gallery, these are easily found projects.

You can find build reports, schems, photoessays, and all sorts of stuff at different sites.

Here are some of them:

www.generalguitargadgets.com (commonly referred to as GGG)
www.tonepad.com (super-hgh quality, easy PCBs, great to start out with)
www.moosapotamus.net (sent you a message about it)
The layouts gallery link at the top of this page. Dragonfly's gallery is huge and I did my first projects on vero in there...i believe it's on page 4.
The 'links' link above will show you pretty much all you need to know about DIYing.

The 'search' button can turn up tons of useful info on any pedal you want to know about.

The wikipedia link, also above (called 'Wiki'), has compiled info for DIYers, along with links to useful threads here.

Wasn't aware of the ampeg history :icon_redface:
thanks for the education...

No big deal, guitar players enjoy the scrambler so much it's easy to see how it could be thought of as an effect designed for guitar only. Actually, they had a school of thought that was more like this: design our stuff to work for everything, but especially bass. Something about 'universal'  gear as I recall...
