Hi,

I'm planning to build the Shaka Express as quite a few of you have made positive comments about it. The schematic is:

The layout I'm think of using is:

Once again, I'm unsure about what the 5 control pots should be (log versus linear). Could anybody help please?

Question 1) R3 (drive) = 100k    Log or linear?
Q2) R12 (probably master vol) = 500k    I'm guessing linear as the schematic says trimpot but the layout shows a big pot
Q3) R18/R19 (bite) = 25k dual pot   Log or linear?
Q4) R20 (tone) = 100k    Log or linear?
Q5) R21 (Vol.) = 100k    Log or linear?

Thanks once again!

QuoteQuestion 1) R3 (drive) = 100k    Log or linear?

Either one would work. Most people would probably prefer a linear here.

QuoteQ2) R12 (probably master vol) = 500k    I'm guessing linear as the schematic says trimpot but the layout shows a big pot

I used a trimpot for R12. I suppose it could be a panel mounted control as well.

QuoteQ3) R18/R19 (bite) = 25k dual pot   Log or linear?

A linear would probably work best here.

QuoteQ4) R20 (tone) = 100k    Log or linear?

I like to use log pot on tone controls. That's my personal preference.

QuoteQ5) R21 (Vol.) = 100k    Log or linear?

Log.

Thank you kindly Paul! I really appreciate it that you took the time to share your experience with me.

Paul got it right. However I should point out that for me, I mainly use linear pots - only because they are easy to find.
