What effect is used on the solo to Paranoid by Black Sabbath? I'd love to build one. Sounds like an octave effect with some fuzz.I really don't know.
Thanks.

Ring Modulator.

Could use an octavia type circuit for the octave up fuzz which sounds like a ring mod sometimes.

If it is a ring modulator - which project should I build?

I don't think it's a ring mod or octavia although it sounds kind like that. I may be wrong but I thought I remember something about a dead battery....

QuoteThe unusual distorted guitar solo was recorded straight and then processed during mixing "through a sound modulator of some sort," recalls Iommi, most likely one of the many assorted effects boxes Bain collected at the time.
