Hi i've got a 20 year old Carvin SX-100 100 watt amp that to my ears sounds like garbage. I was wondering if I could take out the crappy preamp in there and replace it with an FET based distortion like the Boogieman or Dr. Boogie. How would I go about building something for a clean channel? How difficult would this be?

Difficult enough...have you ever worked on amps?
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

:-\ Never worked on amps before. Built an Electra Distortion, Howie's Metal Simplex, a TS808 clone, 3 Ruby's, a Dr. Boogie, a Colorsound Inductorless wah, and a small 386 based practice amp of my own design.
