Need help with tonestack calculation

Hi,
Last week I am trying to create a nice FullDrive/TS kind of bass-overdrive. Therefore I use a lot from the FullDrive schematics around. After building a Fulldrive to specs, I wasn't very pleased with the level of presence and tone in the sound. Nice amount of overdrive and distorion. But just not how I wanted id. Not tuby enough. Taking out the tonestack was a big relief. But in this effect I want to use one. Could go for a BMP but I heard de FullDrive tonestack should be capable enough:

This is the schemtic. Using this gives me not to much bass response, a big loss of volume, and about all my presence/clarity in the sound is gone. Turning the pot makes the sound duller. Replacing R3 with lower values gives me more volume and clarity but makes the tonestack about worthless. Raising C1 gives me better bass response but even less tone-control.

Now, I don't understand this tonestack as a whole and what is happening. Some part seems to be inverted and some not. R1/C1 form a highpass(corner freq: 800HZ)  and C2/R4 make a lowpass (Corner freq: 3288HZ). My question is what could be the best option to do here?

I would like to have the possibility with the tonestack to make my sound from crispy to dull. Probably even raise the highs more than comes out of the overdrive stage. Thanx in advance for any meanings or tips!
Damn I love my pedals...

This will explain the tone control function, and other TS things, very well - http://geofex.com/Article_Folders/TStech/tsxfram.htm
The R1/C1 filter is actually a low pass filter. The  bleed cap I haven't really understood completely.

Why not just get rid of the tubescreamer type tonestack and add a simple lowpass tone control at the end? That will lower highs accordingly.

sry that i havent read the post, but i think that this could help. Use the search function and look for Tone stack Calculator, it is of duncan amps.

Bye bye

Thanx for the link! Will read that at first. Didn't know that this was about the same as a TS-tonestack. For as far as I read now, I don't want the 'harsh' things to be taken of the sound. So probablt a BMP tonecontrol would do better for me.

I know the tonestack calculator and for as far as I know, this TS-setup isn't in it.

With a passive variable lowpass, I cannot boost my highs even further. So, that not so much of an option. Perhaps a variable highpass in the gain part of the opamp.

The circuit currently allows only highs to be cut due to the presence of C1.  It is a simple matter of removing C1 in order to have a fully functional cut/boost high band filter.  IIRC, without C1 the circuit is very similar to the 6.4kHz band in Boss' GE-7.

So, remove C1 or put an extra switch to have it in and out.  It's as simple as that!

I've often wished for, searched for a relatively simple filter calculator,
like the Duncan, but that allows plugging in of various components.

I guess the spice programs can do it but it seems like a lot of
overkill and learning curve.

Anyone know of an alternative?

I'd also love a circuit like Duncans' with changeable parts!  Maybe someone will post a link.
Watch out for the BMP tone stack...I suggest the "flat mids" mod, or your sound will totally be lost on stage! Huuuuuge mid scoop on that puppy....

thanx wampcat and stm. I'm getting a good sound of it now! Didn't know this way of overdrive would work so well on bass.

I'm still in a doubt whether to use a simple lowpass as a tonecontrol or the TS-setup. The orignal sounds very good to me now...Can give the answer myself...breadboard both and see.

Believe it or not, the stupidly wonderful tone control (SWTC) gives great results if you're just interested in darkening up the sound a little (high cut).  For its simplicity, I go with that one a lot!
I'd love a changeable-component TSC type program!!!
