Circuit : Joe Davisson's "Shocktave"
Schematic : Joe Davisson
Layout : Torchy-veroboard from gallery above
Subs : None
Transistors : 5 X 2N5089's

I dont know how I missed this one, I've only built one "octave down" circuit, the mxr blue box, which
is a bit "Nintendo" sounding to me.
This sounds great and tracks quite well, using front pup on HB gtr with tone rolled down.
20 minute de-bug because of some sloppy soldering, but otherwise worked right off the bat.
Lot's of fun, my mix pot (1M) makes the "octave" seem quiet, when dialed to straight gtr I have
around 10 x the volume !
There's a nice balance with some tweaking and that's with out vol at around 1/6 th !
There's a ton of boost from this, could just do with a lot more of the "sub" octave ?

Thanks to RDV's post for reminding me of this and Joe for a very "cool" simple but effective circuit :D

BUMP !
Anyone have a tip about the low level of the octave ?

Thanks,
Marty.

i did one recently using bc550
(voltage at collect of Q2 is 4.6v)
for mine is from a boost(very much gain) to a simple fuzz
only fuzz sound without octave :'(
i want nintendo synth i want harmonizer ~~~~

My ShockTave has pretty decent octave down.  I used 3904's in mine so maybe you could try those.  I think it's the best octave down.  I have other octave downs but this one is the strongest.  If not is it possible that there is still a circuit issue?  I would've thought 5089's would be more pronounced although I never tried them in mine.  You may want to keep tweaking because I get stronger octave down with a knob setting that I ran across.
