Note that I havent really had a chance to "look it over" yet, but its a compressor expander IC thats designed for low voltage apps.

mmmh: not SOIC, but SSOP,
that`s half the "pitch" of a SOIC...
(pin-to-pin distance: 1/40")

I'm sure that you could still "squeeze" a couple of tubes in one Ton !!!  :D

It's cute. I think it's got what amounts to an NE571 inside, Pins 1-7 and 18-24, but hard wired as a compander, and then some more stuff to make it be mutable, etc.

I think for effects use I'd still want the SA571, which is the same as the old NE571. It's more flexible. But there's probably a use for something like this.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I kinda like fig.5 on page 9, with its
"Klirrfaktormeter"  :icon_razz:

don`t forget the
SA572,

and also for low power:
SA576
SA577
SA578
SA5752

I noticed the THAT2180LC voltage controlled amplifier in the Rapid catalogue and wondered if that could be used easily as it says that it can be used as a compressor. I printed off the info but it didn't mean much to me!
On the other hand I checked out the 7 band graphic eq chip, the LA3607 and the info was great so I designed a circuit using easily available cap values to deal with the correct frequencies for guitar only to find out that Rapid had withdrawn it! Is it available at reasonable price anywhere in the UK?
