a simple power supply - daisy chaining

I'm going to make myself a power supply in the following days since I've become tired of paying for all those 9v batteries. Probably just a 12VAC wallwart/transformer -> rectifier -> 9v regulator since I can't be bothered to make something really fancy like RG's Spyder thing.

Is there even any difference (I'm mainly thinking about noise and possible ground loops) in using one of those daisy chain cables or wiring up multiple jacks parallel in the box (like http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/power_dist.gif), or not having any jacks on the box and just a bunch of seperate wires with only plugs on the end coming out of the box?
since all the pedals a chain are allready grounded together via the audio cables, could you theoretically only run the ground wire from the power supply to one of the pedals, and then just having only the +9V going to the others so you don't get any ground loops from this? or does that make even more problems?

Very interesting idea, I would be excited to hear an expert's opinion on this......

i could see a problem with the straight thru grounding in that if a pedal ground fails at some point, you have to check each pedal to find it, whereas if a ground failed in a pedal with an independent ground wire, the other pedals would be unaffected and you could still spot the one that won't come on.

I believe that there is a pre-existing daisy chain pedal from Visual Sound that makes one suitably sized wart-wire end into five of them.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

The visual sound one is nice, its kind of what anyone who's struggled to put a pedalboard with the boss ones would want, lots of length between plugs, right angle plugs, robust wire, and a female end for the adaptor.

I think you could just daisy chain the V+, and let the audio cables make the ground, which would also connect to the ps ground on one of the pedals.  Someone here who made a multi fx pedal like in the Geofex  fx rack article did that, just ran + to each effect, which were grounded through the chassis.

Its an interesting suggestion.  I've never had a problem with local ground loops using daisy chains all kinds of ways, though.  Whichever way is easier.
