  Hmmm...N/C'd when power supplied?
Take some voltages on it! / check ground, is the DC jack switch good?
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

You probably wired the LED straight to the power supply input (battery or DC) instead of hooking up the cathode to a ground so that the switching jack is being used.

Did you use a Switchcraft enclosed jack for the input? I used one from Small Bear on my Dr. Boogie and it turned out to be a 'closed' jack instead of an 'open' one. 'Closed' jacks are connected even when a plug isn't inserted while 'open' jacks are disconnected until a plug is inserted. Unfortunately for me, my Boog is so crammed inside its box that I cant fit a normal stereo jack there and i've been too scared to try another enclosed jack for fear of wasting my time & money only to get another 'closed' jack...  :-[

Hey Jonathan, does it have a DC jack, in addition to the battery? if so, could be thats wired wrong and the whole effect is on all the time, draining batteries as you slumber unaware.  Also could be a short against the case somewhere.

I got a bunch of the switchcraft enclosed N113 jacks on accident that have turned out to be way better then what I originally wanted in the end, they're plastic for isolating the plug from the chassis, and have an "isolated make circuit", just a SPST switch when you plug something in, works better for turning the battery on, because it doesn't run current through the input plug's sleeve like the stereo trick does.  Can make a difference in high gain, high impedance circuits, or stuff with clocks or charge pumps, digital pedals, pops from LEDs getting turned on, etc.

Here's a table if you scroll down to keep all of those exotic jacks straight.
