Yep, it can!  It gives a cool lower gain sound.

dansamp

my question is which will have more gain ??

the layout shows the red dot as the emitter which is how I have it wired
but when you look at the specs on the oc140 it shows the red dot as the collector  :-\

again thanks

I think you get more gain with the red dot as the collector, but I don't quite remember.

dansamp

well I tried it with the red dot as the collector  :-\ :-\

I actually built another one
it sounded like it had a very leaking transistor and pretty much no gain at all
so I pulled it out and flipped it around per the layout and it works better that way

by the way I am getting unity gain on the volume knob just past 12:00 O'clock is this correct ???

Quite right. The first transistor I used for the Cattle Drive had the same gain on both sides.

But the other 3 Germaniums I tried have a bigger gain when used normally (red dot is collector) than reversed.

But the first one is also the one with the smaller gain of the 4 Ge transistors I have.

Doesn't sound right...

Quite possible.
Not all Ge trannies are created equal!  :icon_razz:

Yep, it's quite possible, but still not quite right.  Bad transistor can happen to you.
