just a quick one...
Does anyone know what the hi/mid/lo is doing, circuit wise ???
I'm guessing it affects the sensitivity in a similar vein to the Meatball/McMeats bandwidth control on the envelope section....

If in doubt, RTFM :icon_wink:
According to the FM, it is to optimise tracking for the different frequency ranges of different instruments.
I have had no experience with the unit, but I'd be looking at varying inpout level as well, maybe a compressor up front also... this technology (Blue Box) is never going to be perfect.

RTFM is always good advice....when there IS a FM!  Unfortunaely, what Behringer calls a manual is essentially a features-list/sales-brochure, with more multi-lingual warranty disclaimers than anything else.

So...

Improved octave tracking occurs when the sensitivity is set right (as hank notes/suggests) but also when the superfluous frequency content is excluded.  So, my sense from the minimal blurb in the "manual" is that the switch simultaneously adjusts the sensitivity and the high and low corner frequencies of a bare-bones bandpass filter, so that it "looks" for low notes and ignores high notes when processing bass, and looks for higher notes (ignoring lower ones) when processing guitar.

i have one, and it tracks really really well.  that switch is for better tracking for different ranges/instruments (as mentioned), although it doesn't make a huge difference.  i've only tried it with guitar, and it tracks best with the switch on high.  it doesn't sound anything like the bluebox, however.  it's more of a soft octave than the hard fuzzy square octave by the bluebox.  both are nice for different purposes.  i'm thinking about modding mine to send the guitar/octave to different outputs.  either that or an external box to do the same thing would be handy.

or maybe someday i'll just get a bassist.

Thanks for the replies :P
I was just wondering about the tech behind it,as I was thinking about implementing something similar to the pearl octaver (on the lower octaves),or maybe the EH multiplexer....
http://filters.muziq.be/files/schematics/pearl_oc-07.jpg
would r10/c8 on the schem be a good place to experiment ???
(total stab in the dark here, but this section is heading towards the lower octave generating area,so I thought ,maybe so....:) )

Also, the sections after the fets,as in the EH Octaver aswell, are low pass filters, right ??
one idea was to add a simple rat style tone control (after pins 14 and 7 on the schem) ,or more complex, the filter section from the EH one (I don't have the links to hand, and the schems for the EH and Mutron aren't on ths comp :( )

Hoping to give the layouts I did a test tomorrow, now I'm finally in the world of PnP/glossy paper :P

(maybe a 4017 too,somewhere down the line,for 5ths and more octs down :P:P:P)
