hey guys,

im going to build me a RM Axis Fuzz and wanted to keep it as original as possible.

I found these two layouts on the layout gallery and was wondering which one is the original and whether either are varified?

which one was first? the rocket series or the other one listed?

Yeah, about a year ago I built the first layout (with 3 electrolytic caps) and couldn't get it to work.  The problem could certainly be me, but after I morphed it in to the second (4 cap) layout I got it working pretty quick.

I have learned a lot in the last year, and should probly try to figure out if there is something wrong with the first layout or if it was me.

It's quite tweakable as well.  Seems like a tried a 2N2222 transister for one of the stock trannies (I forget which is NPN and PNP) and that made a difference as far as making it a bit tamer and thicker.  However, I like it raspy and left it stock.  I also added a pot for one of the resistors as sort of a "bias" mod.  Sorry if I am not being specific as to which resistor or tranny to change but, I'm sure a search will yield some options.  I actually etched this one based on a pcb layout I found on the net.
builds completed: boutique fuzz, rangemaster, BSIAB2, PT-80, Tonepad wah, Ross Comp, Axis Fuzz, MOSFET boost, Thunderchief, Big Muff (triangle), Mr. EQ, Dr. Boogey,  Neovibe, Dist+, EA Tremelo, ADA Flanger, RM Octavia
next build(s): ???

Yeah, I used a 5089 in place of the 3904.  It's been long enough that I don't remember why, but I imagine it was fuzzier.

The 3 cap layout was done from a schematic that proved to be wrong. The 4 cap works grand.
