Is there any other way to tin copper traces on a home-etched PC board thatn just soldering by hand?  Has anyone ever rigged up something, like an ceramic bowl on a hot plate, to melt solder and "baptize" the board quickly?  Any other ideas?

the solder flows more easily if its clean...just before I tin the rest of the unsoldered traces, I scuff them with 800 grit and it doesn't take too long...

Yea, Also if you want really fast and smooth connections, put a bit of flux on the copper traces.  Then just touch a bit of solder and it will flow fast and easy.  When done, just use a tooth brush and rubbing alchohol to brush and clean off the excess flux.

Somewhere on the internet I saw some guy who painted his boards with brush on liquid plumber's solder or something, and then melted it over his gas stove...
Dunno.
