I contacted Vero in the UK to ask pricing, and the figures I was quoted seemed very steep. Do many people use the Vero-made material? If so, where do you buy it?

I have also ordered a couple of pieces of the Futurlec stripboard, and I will investigate getting those cloned in FR-4. Are there other sources out there that any of you are presently using?

NB: I have told Aron that, when I do get clones made of the Futulec item, I will offer them to him at wholesale for his store.

Hi Steve,
I get two types from Maplin (UK) , one is the cheap brown "compressed card" stuff with plain
copper top ( £5 for an enormous sheet , enough for perhaps 5/6 projects )
And the other is like a PCB board, see through with pre-soldered copper strips ( silver ) and
is quite expensive at £4 for a small 2 or 3 project piece.
I did find a source on Evil Bay in the UK, he was selling 5 sheets  4 inch by 6 inch for £2.99 !
I have not used these yet, these are the brown type also.

I use generic "stripboard" sold by Rapid Electronics www.rapidelec.co.uk, similar to the Maplin stuff Marty mentions above. It's SRBP (synthetic resin-bonded paper). I haven't paid for real Veroboard for years. Never had a problem with the Rapid stuff, and I don't like drilling / handling fibreglass-based boards.

@SD -

I replied to your pm but forgot to mention I get my vero from ESR (http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/esr/). Quite cheap for small pieces.

Hi
Here in Australia, Dick Smith sells a 12" x 4" copper strip product.  They call it "Versa", which might be to avoid copyright issues with Vero in England.

It's US$6 retail or US$3.20 for business.
Another company sells an awful pre-tinned product that is more expensive and doesn't take solder very well.

Hello,
I think it would be slick to get vero  in that "clear" color that the SB perf board comes in.  I do vero builds every now and then,  but I don't really like the aesthetics of the brown vero that futurlec sells.

Maybe I am compulsive.. but I like the clean look of clear PCB, or perf?

best,

Torchy says that he has bought a 95 x 127mm (about 4" x 5") piece, 36 traces/50 holes, of the phenolic material for 1.41 GBP, call it U.S $2.75. I looked at the Vero web site, and they list a 4" x 20" strip made in either phenolic or FR-4. Clearly this is a "standard" size of sorts that is cut down for individual needs.

So I called Vero this morning and asked pricing. All I can say is that unless they sell their stuff MUCH cheaper other places, you all are buying similar material made by other companies. Based on what I was quoted, it would not be feasible for me to buy the Vero brand.

Now that I know what is wanted, I will get hold of the factory in Taiwan that made my perf and ask them to clone this. Will take a few months between getting it spec'd, made and shipped, but I should have something to sell by New Year's. Thank as always for the "Focus Group."

I was normally buying Vero boards, and one day, I tried this one from Velleman. Well, this stuff is better than Vero stuff.

Last week, I bought the bigger Veroboard format that was available because it ended being cheaper than buying them in smaller formats as I usually do. But that's where I noticed the difference in quality between the two.  Vero is very flexible, Velleman is not.

So for my prototypes I use Vero, for the final projects, I use Velleman.

This is a Velleman stripboard.

In Australia, I get mine from www.altronics.com.au 100mmx250mm $A7.50 for 1, $A 6.00 each for 10.
Wholesale about 1/2 this, I think. (that would make it about $4.50 US wholesale approx). It's the usual phenolic. Never had trouble with it, but I scrub wiht a stiff wire brush before use (or reuse).

I use the large Maplin stripboard sheets and have done so for many years purely for convenience. For a while I worked just 5 minutes walk from Croydon Maplin and would risk life and limb to visit the store which is situated in a hideous area. I have never had any problem with those sheets.

I use the vero from jaycar (http://www.jaycar.com.au/).  It does the job and seems to hold-up to developmental abust without the tracks peeling off.  Cost is quite reasonable.

whatever aron sells, i use that. only place i can find the stuff, though now i'm going to check in some of these other places listed until smallbear starts selling (and in turn, aron starts selling the same)

aron

Yes, I will offer Small Bear's Veroboard in the store once the store opens.

Very soon - mail permitting.

smallbearelec

If you look at the Futurlec stripboard item in Aron's store, the stock I sent him is an exact clone, but epoxy-glass with tinned strips. For the moment, it will only be available from Aron. If you use this material, please buy from there and mention it to others. You will support the Forum by doing so.

Hey Steve, the vero that I get here in Canada is from a manufacturer by the name of BPS. (Busboard Prototype Systems) www.busboard.net. It's good quality stuff and the company is here in Canada. Perhaps you can do some "free trade" eh?

smallbearelec

Thanks for the suggestion! However, this is what I had made in Taiwan:
