I've done a search, both here and on Google, and I can't find an explanation. Can someone enlighten me?

Your question is a bit ambiguous, but LFO stands for Low Frequency Oscillator.  Is that what you meant?

Yes indeed.

If I saw a switch or pot with "LFO mode" on it, I would assume that it meant either:
1. changing the waveform of the LFO, eg between saw and sine or square

or 2. changing the range of an oscillator from audio to LFO (usually by switching capacitor) as in the MiniMoog.

The motivation for the question came from the Phozer:

In the pdf file for the PCB layout, it shows how to "hardwire in LFO mode." I assumed that meant "as opposed to using a wah pedal", but I'm not sure.

Yes, in that context it's indicating how to wire the circuit if you're not going to include a wah pot for pedal control of the filter sweep in the Phozer.

FWIW, you would have gotten a quicker answer if you had provided that context when you first asked the question.

True, but on the other hand, 99% of the people reading the answers would benefit more from the answers given to the question that wasn't asked, so no harm done

The Phozer was the initial inspiration for the interest, but the question was general. Once I knew what the letters meant, I was able to - and did - find plenty of information here myself with one search. And knowing something about low frequency oscillators in pedals, then it makes sense to ask about specific applications.

At least for me.   :icon_mrgreen:
