Ok I have been and looked at the template RG has over at GEOfex for a drilling pattern for the Hammond boxes.

What I am looking for is just the outline of the box as a template in PDF format so that I can then paste other things over it and then be able to print out keeping original size and then make my PNP printout and do my first etching on an enclosure,

has anyone got or can thy point me in the rigt direction for such a template as a file in the net?  I would do it myself but I can edit a PDF but I cant create one to start with

Hammond's site has PDFs and DWG files for their enclosures. That could be a good place to start.

This is actually a tricky thing to do without the right software because every Hammond box is a little different.

I use a vector drawing app to do an outline for the top and I find I always
have to print it out, cut it out, size it up on the box, and make small adjustments to the outline to get it to fit with an equal boarder on all edges.

Too tall, too wide, corners too tight, edges have different radius. Something will be off enough to drive me nuts.  YMMV.
And if you sand a lot that can throw off a perfectly fitting outline too.

Theory as to why...
The size and weight difference I attribute to the casting die wearing out as it is used.
A box made in a new die would weight less than a box made in an old die.

The Hammond PDFs outline only the bottom of the box. That's a problem. The top is of course smaller.

I can produce a PDF for you, but I would rather help you pick a drawing app and get you up to speed using it.
If your into learning a new app then let's go!  If not I'll post some outlines for ya. You can let me know how well they fit.

What I'm not into is tweaking any posted outlines for joe, bob and larry.

DIY.

So, what says you. Want to learn?
It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.

Thanks for the reply Pushtone I figured that if I had an outline I could then edit it...  I tried to do it in MSPaint then kept printing it and resizing it but the problem is the resolution so I scrapped that idea.

I knew from that point on it would need a vector drawing package as I have read that somewhere before.  I measured a few boxes I have, and came up with 90.5x115.5 mm this is in mm of course and is the small side (not side with screws in) it doesnt go right to the edges at that size I measured the the size of the falt face so the total size is actually what I came up with plus the radius on the corners.  This is on purpose as what I want to design will have to fit on the flat face without curling round the edges.

I wouldnt expect you to turf out an outline for me, that would just be cheeky of me to assume you would.

If however you could point me in the direction of a package I can use to create the outline so that if I draw the outline a size it prints the size I drew it too and can do basic things like draw geometric shapes like arcs and circles and paste graphics or text from other apps or even create text with this app then please tell me of one.  I had a brief encounter with Gimp it was over complicated for my needs plus is a graphics package through and through but to use it to draw a circle proved virtually impossible I think  I was using the wrong tool for the job.

I would prefer shareware or freeware or cheap but whatever you suggest would be a really big help, this is the only thing now stopping me finishing my Ross comp as I want to sort the graphics for the enclosure before boxing it.
