Candle Sticker Stuff for holding socket components

  ...we didn't have any more of the 'sticky glob' note stick stuff, but we did have some really old 'candle sticker stuff' kind of like silly putty, and I'm trying that out in a FF for holding a pesky topheavy Ge transistor in place. I think it's going to work out fine. really easy to work in, and probably can be simply pulled off later, wiped off for sure if not in the socket, I didn't have to put it in the socket, mostly mashed into the side of the socket, and around the transistor body.
  Another couple 'pesky fallout caps' on a DIST+ boardwere secured in their sockets using wax, it worked. but I can't recommend it, except it would be probably really good and inexpensive for potting a whole circuit board if all wipers etc. were well masked, I found just jabbing the transistor legs or cap legs through a piece of paper then into the socket to be an easy way to mask off the socket wipers only, I'm *sure the wax 'freezes' on the lead/paper, none going down into the socket wipers.
