2n3904 wah transistors

Do people have luck with these in wah-wahs?

My wahs just hiss and don't work at all with these guys.

I tried them in my wah, but I didn't like them. They did work in there but the wah became thin and punchless. But it sounds like your's are backwords.

I think they are pretty low gain for a wah.  If memory serves, mine typically run about 200 HFE, which is low for a wah.  You are better off with something in the 400-500 HFE range.  There is a substantial gain drop when you switch from the stock MPSA18s to the 2n5089s I've been putting in mine, so I think 2n3904s are too low HFE.
