I haven't seen much talk about anyone using mosfet transistors as clipping diodes. I've seen the layout for using an MPF102 as a clipper in the boss sd-1. But can anyone tell me the layout for other transistors and the results? Anyone have any idea whats in the fulltone OCD/mosfet edition of the fdII?
thanks,

Mosfet as clipping element, I think there's something in Faq about it, also have a look in schematics...IIRC it's the Insanity Box or...one of Aron's schemtatics shows some mosfet clipping element configuration.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

If you want to know how different diodes, FETs or Mosfets sound in a given circuit there's only one way to find out: put 'em in and listen how the FX sound afterwards. ;D

Even if you use 2 1N914 for a clipper and replace them with 2 other 1N914 (for ex. in a TS) the tone can be quite different 'cos it's hard to fetch 2 diodes out of a lot that have the same conductance voltage (5-15% difference is normal).

For a total sym. clipper the conductance voltage of any diode must be analysed and then 2 diodes with equal voltage must paired. If you don't match them the clipper often is slightly asym. , producing a harder and more trebly tone compared to a total sym. clipper.

John Greene was one of the first to use this. I used a variation (not the same) in the Shaka Braddah III. In addition, I do talk FETs and other clipping diodes in the simple mods page off of the Wiki.

Plus, try the search function too.

There's some info on MOSFET clipping here:

AMZ is updated. i haven't been there for sometime but there's also interesting links from that page on.

reading these links....and the links i found in those links......

in arons wikipedia style page, and from other articles, for FETs, the gate/source connected form the anode, and the drain is the cathode....am i right?
