I have just breadboarded this circuit:

However it doesn't add any distortion. The circuit has no effect on the guitar sound but the pots act as volume controls. I didn't make any mods to the cicuit.
The only thing I can think of is that on the schematic there are arrows at the top. I connected all of these to +9v, is that right? And the bottom 'broken arrows' all connected to -ve.
Thanks

Yes, the arrows at the top go to 9+ and the bottoms symbles are for ground.  Since it is breadboarded, check the first 2 stages one at a time.  There should be some serious amplification going on.  The final stage inverts the signal and may do some tone shaping IIRC.  Check for around 4.5v at the junction of the 2N5089, the 10K resistor and the .1uF cap.  Then prepare to be Rocked.  :icon_cool:

What I've been trying is putting the output wire to various points on the circuit to try and locate the problem. I've found its not even distorting at the first transistor so I'll check that out and try to get 4.5v like you said.
Thanks
