I know this isnt the right place to ask but im sure there are some people who can help.I just bought a New guitar which has a 5 way selector switch 2 passive humbuckers and a single coil.Im planning on installing 2 EMG 81's but keeping the single coil passive. On the EMG website it says you "must" use a 3 way switch or you get dead spots and this can damage your speakers.Has anyone had experience wiring EMG81's to a guitar with a 5 way switch and if so were there any problems?

Cheers

Dead spots that damage speakers? No.

Really bad combinations where your passive pickup is switched in parallel with the EMG, yeah. It'll be a mess. I'd recommend going either all passive or all active. Hybrids are usually not so hot unless you can give each its own volume and tone control and never mix them.

Well i was thinking of disconnecting the passive singe coil when wiring up the EMG's anyway until i can afford to buy an active one.But it still leaves me with the question if you can wire emg's into a 5 way switch.I dont see why not but the EMG website disagrees  ??? BTW the guitar also has one volume and 2 tone controls.

dude, save for your active middle pickup. then you'll be able to use a 5 way switch.
