I have the original version and have tried the new version.  The only real difference that I can tell is that the old one has a bit more mid and low end.  It's not a huge difference, but just slightly noticeable.

I didn't try one yet but my friend ordered one last week and says that it's a very
"dark" sound without enough treble even when cranked ! that doesn't seem right !
My DIY version can get quite bright I would say .....
I preferred the silver top also on V1

Hmmm, that doesn't sound like an XXL, they are plenty bright.  I found that both pedals had about the same amount of brightness to it and I usually have my tone knob at about 10-11 o'clock.  I like V1 too...the silver engine-turned top is very cool.
