I'm thinking in order to get 12v+ / 12v- / 0v, I'd need a TRS style jack.  Could I use a 3.5mm TRS?  Or would the power load be too much?  The mA rating I need is about 50mA.  T

I think there's enough info there to say it's gonna be just fine.
Maybe the jacks tech-specs actually recommend a maximum current.

I'm researching some jacks now that I might be able to use.

Thanks.

Any jack will do 50ma OK.

But you are building into your box confusion and errors for yourself if you use a patently audio style jack to connect up power. How often will you or someone else get it wrong?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

If you plug in the TRS with the power on, the tip of the jack will momentarily short against the sleeve/chassis of the socket - short and sparks.

That's a really good point. Never thought of that.
