hi all, i got a real simple question about building my own effect pedal...

in the Ibanez TS-9 schematic, the op-amp IC it used was JRC4558D...
would changing this IC to UA741 make any large change in overall sound??
what about changing it to other ICs? is it even gonna work at all??

in other words, is op-amp replaceable with a different model of op-amp??
if it doesn't, why??
or what needs to match in the op-amp specs in order to be exchangable??

thanks a lot!

mike,
hey!  you can use any dual operational amplifier... if you have doubt, check out the specs on this site- alldatasheet.com .  Changing op amps will definitely effect the sound of the effect, but you should experiment with a few and see what you like!

UA741 is a single operational amplifier, so that wouldn't work out.

mike,
also, if you are asking if you can use that op amp because it's all you have, let me know.  i'll gladly drop a jrc4558 in the mail for you for free

thanks for the reply man....

i checked the datasheet for JRC4558, and i found that it's just 2 op-amps in a single chip
could i just use 2 seperate UA741 chips to wire it up??

You could use a couple of single op amps, if you don't mind doing your own layout. 741s will 'work' if the layout is OK.
The 741 is probably noisier & has lower frequency response, but the first might not be a problem and the latter might be an advantage, who can say till they hear it..
