Could someone help me out.  I have built this and its sounds great except for the fact that the volume is very low.  I have tried changing pots to make sure it wasnt any of those and they all work fine.  Here is a link to the layout that I used: http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/axisface/axisfacesi3layout.gif.

If the pedal sounds good but cannot reach unity, then something is certainly wrong.  I would suggest building an audio probe and probing the circuit til you find the part where it gets quiet.  Did you use a 100k output pot?

From Geofex.com:

For the grounded end I soldered on a 1/4" plug and I plug it into the pedal.  Then you run a guitar cable from the jack/probe to your amp.  Then you touch the unconnected leg of the cap to components in your pedal and listen for problems.  In your case you litening to see where in the circuit it gets quiet.

I would not use an amp you care about a whole lot; I blew a headphone amp probing and I would have been pissed if it was my Line 6.  I recently built a LM386 amp with parts from Radio Shack so I could easily fix it if I blew it.

  Post voltages and battery voltage.
test for short between 9V+/- before adding power.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

The thing that trips me up some time, when I have a pedal that does that, is:
- a solder joint shorts out
- a solder joint does not have solder on it -  :icon_redface: Quit laughing - if you have never done this - you will someday
- the wires going to the pots are not going to the right hole.

Now, on this circuit, you have to tweak the pot on Q2 by ear - try that first if you have not tried that yet.
