Boss DS-2 that will not bypass

I searched but could not find anything. If I missed something just let me know.
I have no grasp of electronic switching such as boss uses.

My DS-2 will not bypass. I replaced the switch, thinking that was the problem, but it is always on as soon as it is connected and will not shut off.

Sorry to ask such a stupid question, and again, I may have missed something in my search. Thanks!

O

how old is the pedal? The switching FETs might have gone bad and they could be stuck in the "on" position. Have you found a schematic?

Nobody has any idea how old it is or where it came from. I let a friend borrow my ds-2, who then let his friend borrow it. When I asked for it back, friend #2 brought me one and said it was mine, and friend #1 brought me one and said it was mine, and nobody knows where the second ds-2 came from, just that it won't switch off, and it was concluded that both should be mine.

So now I have two, one that works beautifully, and one that won't turn off.

Slighty OT, I know, but an interesting story I thought.

Yes, I have a schematic. However, I do not have a multimeter to investigate the switching circuit. Is there another way to tell?

The schem can be found at http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schemview.php?id=132.

If it can't be fixed, at least I have a kickin' enclosure. I don't even use distortion pedals much.

Does the LED work?

It could be any number of things.  A good place to start is to whip out your meter and make sure the switching transistors are getting sensible voltage.  it looks like the first things that the input oltage hits wouls be the switching circuit, so it is *possible* also that somwehere along the line, someone popped in the wrong adaptor and got some things a bit tosty before it hit the rest of the circuit... can't say though without seeing it.  next thing i would check are C2, C11 D1 and D2.

It was the LED. I guess it was just shot. I threw another in, and it works fine. Thanks for the help, guys!

I'm wondering, now, however, since I already have one, and I don't even like how they sound, really, if I should just cannibalize the enclosure.

Opinions?

Ahhhh... I thought it might be the LED.  Glad you got it sorted.

I'd keep the pedal, don't cannibalize it.  either that or sell it and buy a bunch of Hammond aluminum project boxes.
