Im working up a perfboard layout for the univox squarewave from the schematic here:

http://www.univox.org/pics/schematics/squarewave.jpg

I believe I have it handled except for one area:  The "distortion" poteniometer.  It is shown as such:

Could anyone explain to me how this would be laid out?  The output cap is running in parallel with a series of a potentiometer and fixed resistor?
Lugs 3 and 2 are connected.  lug 1 runs to 27k resistor.  Am I correct?

I will post my layout when I get done.

Yeah that's correct.

Between the L/R 'in out' of the circuit fragment, between 27k and 277k variable resistance can be selected.
The .001 cap bypasses HF's. when resistance to High Frequency through the pot+27k is higher than the cap path, has more effect as the pot resistance increases.
With the 27k there, is probably barely noticably be doing something the whole time, [ie with the pot set at zero R] and will more closely 'balance' the caps effect...so as to let the caps HP effect increase [or stay closer to the same] more smoothly over a wider range of the pot range.   Mainly so the pot [increased series resistance] doesn't effect the highs.
probably so the HF's arent lost as the resistance path series resistance increases, a way to overcome the frequency effect of 'higher' series resistance [lost HF's].
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
