If you build a DIST + with a scoop filter at the end of it after the diodes, I think you'll like it alot.

As many suggest the Dist+ which I think may not have the gain you´re after, nor the tone, you can make it more high gain. You have to reduce the only 4k7 resistor on the opamp pin 2 to gnd, say 2k2 or 1k. With a 2k2 you´ll increase the gain from 213x to 455x, and to 1001x with the 1k. But at the same time you may need to increase the 0.047uf to 0.1uf or 0.22uf to keep the same freq response.
The product of  4k7Ohm*0.047uf = R*C = constant.
