Hot Potz for passive volume pedal?

I built a passive volume pedal into a crybaby wah shell.  I wanted to use a 500K pot, so I pulled a tone pot out of my les paul (was rewiring to master volume and tone anyway) and put it in there.  It's wired exactly as a guitar volume knob, except backwards from how it would be in the guitar.  I'm not so much concerned about the taper.  What does concern me is that it doesn't go anywhere near all the way off.  Maybe down to 4-5 (?).

I had the choice of having it go "all off" or "all on", and I chose "all on".  I have removed the rubber bumpers from the heel side of the rocker, but it's still not enough.  I guess a more appropriate taper might get me closer.  I was wondering if anybody could tell me:  would the 470K Hot Potz get me closer to 0 while retaining the 10 setting?  Or does anybody have any other suggestions?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the pot in a crybaby turns "backwards". Therefore, with a regular log pot, you get the same effect as using a reverse log pot as a regular volume control. I.e. it would work nearly as an on-off switch going from zero to almost full volume within the first few degrees of travel.

Try a reverse log pot instead. It could work better. I'm not sure what taper the Hot Potz has. I've heard rumors that it has some kind of special taper to suit Wah-ing, but it might as well be just a reverse log or linear pot. Take some measurment on a Hot Potz at zero, middle and full turn, and you'll get an idea on what the taper is.

I believe the hot potz and other specialized wah pots have a slightly more condensed taper with some flat areas at the start and finish so you can get most of the range over the pedal's sweep

but will the hot potz (or the reverse audio pot) physically turn far enough in the crybaby pedal to get close to 0?

ashcat_lt

this is a bump.

the problem seems to be that the pot rotates further than the pedal can physically turn it.  will the hot potz help at all?  will a reverse audio pot get me closer?  if so, anybody know where i can find a reverse audio pot with long enough shaft and threads to fit the crybaby shell?  anybody got any other ideas?

for example, could i somehow use the pot to control an led/ldr or transistor or something to get what i'm looking for? can i adjust the taper of the pot with resistors?  anything?

thanks
