Hi

I am going to experiment this weekend with some booster circuits and most of the ones I have looked at use the J201.
The only J FET I can get easy access to is a BF245C. From digging out some datasheets on the Net this seems like a reasonable substitution.

Please can anybody back this up (or shoot me down !)

Regards

Axeman.

Two big differences, the gate and drain pins are switched (from a J201) and the Vgs is much higher, max Vgs on the BF245C is 7.5V where a J201 is 1.5V max.  The BF245C could work in a booster, but you'd have to have a highish supply voltage.  It might be hard biasing a part with a 7.5v Vgs with a 9v supply.  But it NEVER hurts to try....  Good luck!!

+1 but I seem to remember that the "A" variant has a lower maximum VGS and would be better suited to a 9V application.
