Rangemaster Offboard

Hi,
I've (finished) building a rangemaster clone to the original circuit on GEO, modifying only to make it true bypass. I plugged in and it sounded cool but I had to turn the amp up to about 3 quarters to get even a half-decent volume from it. Why would this be?

I figure it may be something to do with the wiring - i religiously followed Keen's instructions and i seem to have 1 lug of the input jack being used for nothing (the other 2 being used for grounding and the positive battery wire).
Also,  everywhere seems to say that the negative wire should be going to the 'board (although i've done it point to point style) but in the instructions it has it going to the switch.

Does anyone have a diagram or picture or anything showing the offboard wiring for an original schematic rangemaster?

My only other thoughts are that there could be too much resistance somewhere in the circuit, or that the capacitor is not any good - I thought it best to ask here first though before i start tinkering!

Help is greatly appreciated  :),
Thanks,
Nick
