Hey everyone,
I have a Small Clone reissue that I've been modifing. I have all the mods working, except for one. I'm trying to do the mod that removes the dry signal, but haven't been able to get it to work right. I've tried cutting a couple different traces by the 4558. The first was after a 22k resistor that comes off of pin 1 of the 4558, and that cut the sound completely. The second cut was before that resistor (the trace that goes to the 22k), and that only gives me the osc sound with no modulated guitar (sounds like a siren). I've already hung a switch on the box for this, so I would really like to get this working if anyone can help. There is another trace coming off of pin 1 of the 4558 that I haven't messed with yet, it looks like it goes through an electrolytic to the trim pot.
Thanks,
JFTL

Have you seen the tonepad Small Clone project? The old pdf has a stereo mod, as well as others. Requires a seperate board though...

Yeah I have, the problem is I think that this factory board is slightly different then either of those builds, but I will check it again.
Thanks!

Yep, the layout's bound to be different... the pads would be there(somewhere, I think) but not where shown on the layout. :P You'd have to puzzle it out with the schematic, assuming the schematic is accurate for the reissue... And I hope it is, because I'd like to monkey with mine one of these days ;D

I think I may have mis-wrote the topic on this. I'm looking to be able to cut the dry signal ala Moosapotamus, not add another jack to make this stereo.

This mod is trivial, you are doing the right thing but I think you pulled the wrong resistor.

Before you do anything else, you should probably trace your reissue circuit against a copy of the schematic to make sure they match, and to make sure you are not making changes that you don't want. Modding an existing circuit without a valid schematic is kind of risky. Also, instead of cutting traces, I would have suggested desoldering and lifting one leg of that 22K resistor. I don't know about the reissue, but there is only one 22K in the tonepad circuit/layout.

After you trace the circuit (or at least the part of it around the 22K/20K mixing resistors), you might try repairing the traces that you cut and just lift one leg of the 22K instead. I know it will work if you do that on the tonepad layout.

Good luck...

Hi Charlie!
Thanks for you help. I have already repaired the trace cuts before posting my question. I'll definitely give it a go, and I do know where there is a 22k resistor (that's the one I've been cutting around).

Thanks for your contribution to the DIY community through your site, and on here. I've used more then one with great results (most recently the Small Clone, and Autocrash, Small Stone mods soon).

Thanks!
