My bassist would like me to make him a fuzz, and I was thinking on basically using an Axis Face again but taming down the high end a bit so its more suitable to bass.
I tried my bass through my Axis Face and it basically sounds the same as guitar going thru it, I'd think he would want more control to smooth that out.
I'll look at changing a few caps and resistors I discovered to lower high freqs for him.

I'd also like to add a simple, one knob tone control to his circuit - I'll be basing it on the schem from Fuzz Central. Do you think the Smooth control in their schem would work okay as a tone control? I tried it for guitar and it seemed to have little effect overall so I'd like a suggestion for a different tone option.

Also, just to keep it interesting, I want to make a duel effect enclosure. I want to add a simple NPN boost into the enclosure too. It will be on a separate board, have its own switch and knob.
Would both of these work okay off a single 9v battery? I doubt they would be used together too often.

If they could both be run off a single battery, it would make it easier to hook both circuits up to the input jack so they are powered on with the instrument cable.

I assume hooking the 2nd circuit in would just be a matter of running off the other board, for example the fuzz output going to the boost switch, and when selected it works as the input...

Does that sound right or am I missing something out here which will make it much more difficult than I am imagining...

Cheers

Anywhere but here, that would seem odd...

A Bazz Fuss might be better suited for the bass. There is a clip here:

Anyway, if you raise the input and output cap on that axis face to 1.0 uF, you might get what you want. Try it with your axis face to see how it sounds.

If you want a tone control, you could just stick a bass style tone control on the end.

I built a bass fuzz and a NPN boost onto one circuit and made a dual pedal for my bassist, it actually sounds pretty good! I had doubts since it was such a simple circuit, but it is really thick and synthy sounding, I added a gain control too so it can tame down a bit - he's pretty happy!

Next time we are jamming at my house I'll take a picture.

I'd like to build another double pedal, it was pretty fun. Next on the list is my rangemaster though!

One of the things the Brassmaster opened my eyes to was the fact that a fuzz that sounds a bit gated and farty on guitar can sound incredible on bass!

On a FF type circuit, ya wanna make sure the output cap is at least 1uf or larger value... the input cap is usually larger yet, so it's fine. If ya wanna dull down the high end a bit, the addition of a simple tone control on the end of the circuit should do nicely.
I am not responsible for your imagination.
