Parallel "looper" help needed

I've found myself in need of a parallel looper.. 
There was mention in an old thread - of a simple passive solution to this. 

I looked at the splitter blend - it just seems like overkill to me. I just want to stick 2 pedals in 2 seperate loops and leave them on - each connected to a volume pedal so I can control their individual "mix."

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
