Jen HF Modulator

Hi! What a great forum, I'm glad I found it.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with building this? I used the GGG circuit http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_jen_hf_mod.pdf

I used BC548's instead of the 2N5172's. The effect itself is sounding how a ring mod should sound, but I'm losing heaps of gain. Is there anything in the circuit I may be able to modify in order to fix this?

Actually they were BC546'S, I don't think that would make much difference though.

I noticed in a previous thread that other people have had the same problem, maybe its just a design fault.
