so i worked out a perf layout  from the schematic below. Q1-3 are 2n2222a's. i had to swap the two 2uf caps for 2.2uf's and i had to use a 22k resistor for the 24kr. i also set up a voltage regulator using a lm317 so i can use a 9v. i have a trim pot for r2 of the voltage regulator to fine tune it. the problems are that i have to beat the strings to get any distortion at all, but i am getting signal through it. also the effect pot isn't doing anything. i've checked my layout 3 or 4 times now and i'm just not sure what to do now? i checked the trannys and here's what i got,
Q1 c= 1.313
     b= 1.305
     e= .604
Q2 c= 1.311
     b= 68.8
     e= o
Q3 c=1.003
     b= .532
     e= 0

i took a second look at my voltage regulator and realized that i had it wired incorrectly. so i rewired it and now i don't get any signal. am i correct in thinking that if you look at the lm317t with the tab to the back left to right the pins are adj, vout and vin? with the circuit on i get 1.5v on my dmm so it seems as though i have it wired up correctly.

foxfire

well i got rid of the voltage regulator altogether and wired up a AA and still nothing. does anyone have a layout they could post for me to compare mine to?

GREEN FUZ

Sounds like it`s time to take it to your Sunn Dealer or a reliable electronic repairman.. ;) :icon_biggrin: Sorry, last thing you need is a smartass.

foxfire

hey, a smart ass is better than my dumb ass!

GREEN FUZ

By way of an apology.

I got this off the BYOC site but I`ve seen it on a site belonging to a forum member so if it`s a problem I will remove it immediately. In any case, hope this helps.

here is the layout i worked up. if someone could take a look at it and compare it to the schematic i'd very thankful. just to note, i changed R7 to 22k and C4 and C5 were changed to 2.2uf. i think i've been looking at it too long.

foxfire

so i switched what i call R4 and R7 and it works now. i also jumped C1 and C7 up to .1uf for more bass. after playing it for about 2min. i like it i did notice that if you pick softly or let a note ring out the sound will cut out before the sting stops vibrating. it does decay nicely, but it seems like it decays early or quickly maybe. i don't know what you call this or what affects how the pedal decays? hell i'm just glad it works!

p.s.- thanks Green Fuz, i already had that schematic, but if you hadn't posted it i may not have thought to switch those resistors.

It would be nice, if the copyright note would not be removed if somebody is using one of my schematics.  The 34kbyte difference cannot be so important.  Even the Stompbox logo has 41kbyte.

You can find the original schematic here:

Quoteit works now
Ooh, I love a happy ending. The rapid decay could be a misbiased transistor. Which one I couldn`t say.

As I said, I took it off another forum and that`s the way it was. The practice of removing copyright notices from schematics is not uncommon. I don`t really understand why it`s done. Credit where credit`s due and all that.

i don't know much about biasing, but i checked them and here is what i got,
Q1 c=1.822v
     b=1.692v
     e=1.146v
Q2 c=1.51v
     b=.624v
     e=.1mv
Q3 c=.330v
     b=.618v
     e=.1mv
by the way i switched over to 2n5089's. when i first checked the trannys the collector readings were way lower than the base readings so i changed the 10k's off of the collectors to 25k pots. now i have much better decay. i also added 3 1n914's to the end of the circuit in an attempt to smooth it out a bit. i can't really tell if they helped. i'm not 100% in love with the pedal yet. i ordered some 2n2923's to see how it sounds with them. i think it could be a cool pedal if i learn how to bias it? anyway if anyone has any incite the can pass on i'll be forever in your debt.
