I'm thinking about a 'Spyder 'solution'...
Run AC to SB's, once inside, the DB and smoothing caps convert this to DC, 7809 converts that to 9v regulated.
Any problems [other than non compatibility]? with this method?
Then would I have to use a switch to lift the DB in case I also wanted battery power, or could I leave the diode bridge connected and simply lift the 11vac input, add 9vdc via battery to the circuit power rails?
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Loss of compatability is not a trivial problem to have.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
