Diode compression op-amp... flavors

I always forget this one, it sits there on the front page and I just skip past it.
Doesn't get a lot of mileage on the main page, perhaps because of that.
Seems like it has yeilded some interesting results.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has gone with any variations on this and if anyone has build a version into a pedal they kept.
