hey,  can anyone help me figure out what is being said here

http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/srvkwschar/34250552.html

it's a japanese site that discusses a boss bd-2 layout that i know something about.  :icon_wink:
i tried google's beta japanese translator and learned enough to see that they seem to be complaining
about something circled in red on the layout.  and that they seem to have got it working.

thanks for any help.

Sad thing is, I can read all of this basically but barely understand any of it.  Only got to Japanese II...  I can ask my fiance's grandmother when I get home if noone can help you by then.  Just gotta remember this.

no comment on the language or the bd-2 but the japanese are doing perfboard right over there, check out the ross compressor and the standardized size of the board they start out with, everyone that makes layouts should try to make them in a similar size so that they fit as neatly as that into the single hammond boxes.
Since when is 3/4 of the way up "cranked"?

Interesting thing for me from some of the Japanese blog sites is......
Some of their builds are my layouts!
That makes me feel pretty darn good!!  ;D

There's some very nice stuff there. That's one thing I love about the Japanese, they really take pride in their work. They respect the art there, and I have the utmost respect for them for recognizing the importance of the craft.
Check out my NEW DIY site - http://solgrind.wordpress.com

Agreed.
Although, if you look around enough in those sites, not all that glitters is gold, if ya know what I mean!
There are some "hacks" in the far east too!

Hi. I've been lurking here for a while and finally, I have a reason to post. :icon_biggrin:

Japanese is my first language--if something doesn't sound right, it's my electronics noobishness, not my language skills. Please bear with me.

He says that when he first plugged in, he got a low humming sound. Then he discovered that if he shorted the place circled in red, it would work. And he can't figure out why because when he looks at the schematic, that place shouldn't be shorted.

He then goes on to say that he used 2SK184GR for the JFETs, 2SA1015 for the PNP transistors, and 2SC1815GR for the NPNs. He crossed (shorted?) the source and gate on Q1, Q2, Q4, and Q5 (the JFETs), the collector and base on Q3 and Q6 (the PNPs) and the collector and base again on Q7 (the NPN). He speculates that you wouldn't have to do this if you used different transistors.

Finally, he says he installed three switches: one for bass boost, and two for swapping diodes (I assume the clipping diodes). He says only the bass switch works.

Doesn't sound like a particularly successful build. :icon_neutral:

moro,
Welcome aboard!
I wish I could translate like that.
I admire people who can speak and read more than one language as I have a hard enough time with English!
Thank you again!  :)

It looks amazingly like my build - box caps and silver mica...I was a little surprised when I saw it. I deduced the builder was saying that it wasn't working, but by running fingers over it, the builder found that shorting the points in red got it making sound.

I have verified the layout, by the way. So if the builder is having trouble, it's not the layout that's at fault. I think the builder has isolated the problem a little, but would be well served running an audio probe over the build.

The builder does state in an earlier blog entry that he got the schematic from Gaussmarkov's site and the mods from diy.erikhansen.net. From reading the blog entries, it appears that he knows that he made a mistake somewhere and that he needs to spend some more time looking for it.

Hope this helps,

Masa

fantastic!  i just love this place.  i just got back from band practice and find it's all explained.
i was hoping that the builder wasn't saying that there was something wrong with the layout.
like chris said, he has already verified it.  and it sounds great.  i've played with chris' build.  :icon_cool:

welcome moro!  thanks very much.  and masa also.  i am very grateful. :icon_biggrin:
