Has anyone used these paint pens (the fine-nibbed version) for enclosure painting? I want to do some spot colouring of some etched enclosures and thought these might be a good way to do it. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers,

Andy.

Sure, they can work pretty good if you have good lettering technique. Here's one thing I built for someone:

ooo, not to hijack, but paul ... what screws did you use for the xlr jack?  self-tapping? :icon_cool:

Well, i cant answer for Paul, but you can use normal metal screws with nuts on the inside. Just drill the holes, push them through, and tighten them up.

thanks, andy! :icon_biggrin:  i was kinda hoping that aluminum is soft enough for self-tapping.  i was just thinking of trying it today when i saw paul's pics and thought i would ask.  couldn't find this info on the net in my first pass.

Dragonfly is correct, use a not and bolt, but in gerneral, you can also use self tapping screws... I use #6 self tapping in 6061 aluminium all the time....not easy to do with a handheld screw driver though.... really need a drill.....

Sorry for adding to the hijack......

I drill the holes first and use regular old screws.  :icon_cool:

...I would have thought using rivets would be a better solution and a lot quicker.

Back to the topic (it being my topic :-))...thanks Paul for confirming that these pens are OK. I'm only planning to spot fill designs and lettering that have already been etched into the enclosure....which is the best option for me anyway seeing as my freehand art skills don't extend far beyond 'colouring in' :-)

Cheers,

Andy.
