Would this power amp be suiteable with guitar?

I just bought a bunch of tubes:
8 x 6P14P <- el84 workalike
10 x 6AC7 <-el34 workalike
20 x 6N2P <- 12ax7 workalike

I'm planning to start my first amp with some of these, but so far the only thing I've built with tubes is Dough Hammond Pentode Driver. I was therefor hoping to start with an easy project, and stumbled across this:

would that be usefull as power amp, teamed with a matchless hotbox, a real McTube or any other high voltage tube pre? I know it is intended for HiFi, but that doesn't really matter when it comes to power amps? or does it? Any other suggestions for a 10-15 watt amp using any of the above mentioned tubes, that would be suiteable as a first project. Something simple, to teach me the basics.

18watt:  http://www.18watt.com
  2 EL84 & 2 12ax7 (for an 18watt lite)
  2 EL84 & 3 12AX7 (for an 18watt TMB or trem)

AX84: http://www.ax84.com
  P1: 1 12ax7 &  1 EL84 --- puts out about 5 watts
  P1 Extreme:  1 12AX7 & 1 EL34 -- about 12 watts
  High Octane: 2 12AX7 & 1 EL84  -- about 5 watts, but high gain.
  November:  3 12AX7 & 2 EL84 -- about 18 watts-ish.  Basically a Plexi circuit at lower wattage.

Check and see if you have 6AC7 or 6CA7.  If it really is a 6AC7, then it's a small-signal pentode, not a EL34-workalike.

The power amp you referenced is a self-split push-pull amp which probably wouldn't do well for guitar use without some significant modification.  It uses an ultra-linear configuration which sounds quite sterile for guitar use.

I would recomment a P1 or P1 extreme for the first build.

Matt.

Thanks for the reply, that was extrmly helpfull.
The tubes are 6ac7, wich then makes them unusefull. I remember reading somewhere that they were direct replacements for el34's, but I now see that this is only true for the 6ac7EH. That rules out the el34-based amps. I guess I'll trust you, and go with the P1. I have been looking at both that and the 18watt lite earlier, but I had totaly forgotten them by now. If the P1 build goes good, I'll commit to the 18 watt later on.

Thank you!
