Question About Pad-Per-Hole Board, Power, Grounding, Etc...

My goods haven't arrived yet, so i thought I'd ask a question about them while I wait. First off, this will be my first build attempt using "general purpose" pad-per-hole board — thus the n00bness. :)

That said, here's what I ordered: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=71

I'm going to build the RG Keen ABY on perfboard here: http://aronnelson.com/gallery/humfreeaby/Improved_Hum_Free_ABY_Perf

My questions, then, are...

  • The connection line (what term should I be using here?) running from the top right (just above +9v) all the way around to the left is the common ground, right?
  • How do I chain all of those pads together? String uninsulated wire across all of them, soldering each pin? Just strand wire between the pins that have other components attached, like from J15 to P15 -- P15 to Q15 -- Q15 to T15, etc.?
  • Should I have bought a different type of perfboard? If so, which one?
  • If I want to use a 9v DC jack, do I just take the DC jack's positive and go to the "+9v" pad? What about the jack's negative?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

1)  Yup, that's ground. The "+9v" there threw me a little too!

2) A cut off piece of resistor lead or solid hookup wire can be used to make a ground "bus" just like you're thinking.  Jumpers on the board can be solid core wire, too...I only use stranded for off-board stuff like pots.

3) That perfboard looks fine.

4) Look up "DC Jack" to see how they're wired. There is probably a diagram somewhere in the layouts section or something.  But basically, yes, you would connect the 9v out to the board power in pad.   The ground wire would go to the switching jack's sleeve.

That should get you started :o)
