What if, we added one more FET stage to the end as seen here, that is actually slightly higher in gain than Q4?
Or is this redundant?
Please have a look.....R.G.    comments??

Whatever you like. My personal cut is that JFETs are too variable to use for gain stages. I did it here just because it's a closer approximation of the Fender circuit than opamps.

You see, what happens is that JFETs are more widely variable than bipolars, and it's much more difficult to design a circuit to be insensitive to JFET variation than to bipolars. They are also harder to find.

So when you post any circuit with a JFET in it, three out of the next five replies to the post are usually "I can't get a Yada-Yada JFET, can I just use a Dingum JFET instead?" Then a week later, there are seven posts that they used a Dingum and it didn't work, had low gain, didn't (or did!) oscillate, caused dandruff or acne, etc. 

JFETs are bad juju. One uses a JFET only when there is something special about it that you can't get any other way. Well, there's that self-induced pain thing, but we're not talking about that.

I vastly prefer the JFET darlington to yet another JFET stage that can't be predicted.

Ok well, I vero-ed up this little add-on board for the volume loss problem in the Electric mistress project, as suggested by Slacker.
Simple to adapt if it's of use to anyone...

A Daughter board like this is truly the simpler fix for a volume drop issue.

I don't have this issue of volume with my build and I guess it's just higher gain JFETs?
