Do You Guys Think This Design Is Too "Girly"?

I just wanted to thank everyone for the comments again. She's excited to be able to work with me on this, being able to put something she loves doing together with a new hobby of mine. We're now refining and tightening-up the art, too, so the next one -- which will be the same design -- should look even better.

man, i think it's totally cool she's collaborating with you on this,
kudos on having such a nice relationship

one thing i'd change from the design is the density of the yellow paint in some areas (like the petals) ..don't know if its intended there to be see-through, i'd paint it solid yellow

When we talked over finalizing the art, I told her the same thing re: the transparency. She'll be knocking out a second version tonight, though, and the yellows should be all nice and solid and "popping"! :)

I think it looks fantastic. Not girly, just artsy.

I don't think it's too girly, but it I do think it shares a lot of traits with ZVex, and I wouldn't buy it.  But then, I'm into stripped down design, and I'm freaking anal about aesthetics.  That said, it's also way better than anything I've done, I think the public will like the design, and I think you should run with it.  Double-plus kudos for collaborating with your wife.

on the zvex thing,
there's this consideration:
this is their FIRST prototype, everything should be up from now.. i expect these designs to evolve and get better with time, so it will be both unique and classy, plus good looking

would have zvx'x first prototype looked as good as this one? ..not to set any kind of statement, only to help put things into perspective

What's wrong with looking girly anyway? There are no girl (or girly...) musicians? A lot of creative types I know have a great sense of humour, perhaps the death metalist with the flowery pedal has one as well? I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I mean, besides it being a great design!

Have you seen those Daisy Rock guitars?  They're great.  And while geared at the smaller (average) physical dimensions of female guitarists, there is a whole lot of overlap between the physical dimensions of many male players, and many female players, so the guitars are perfectly built for a lot of guys too.  Nothing wrong with an instrument that: a) isn't "pointy", b) isn't heavy on your back, c) doesn't have blood spatters or skulls in its graphical design.  Nothing wrong with a Mojo Jojo-themed guitar either! :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

with the popularity of screamo and indie rock, you should have no issues with the paint job unless you try to sell it to death metal bands...  :icon_razz:

Seconded re: Daisy Rock. I used to work with a girl group (Lovebites if you're interested) that were endorsed by Daisy Rock and got a load of free guitars. They were very well put together, and nice to play, especially the double cut semi-hollow one. Strangely, the girls seemed to prefer their old Les Paul and Flying V's ;)
