Have you experienced problems with 3080 OTA's then by golly, answer in this thread!
There could be a bad batch of them floating around!

Two individual cases here of nonfunctional chips...

Indicator: If you have connected the chip correctly in your build you should get ~0.6Volts at pin5 otherwise post here...

Nota Bene:
The 3080 uses a simple input current mirror and has a 0.6V input voltage on Iabc. The LM13600/13700 and I believe the 3280 and NE5517 use an improved current mirror on the Iabc input and may be as high as 1.0 - 1.4V (two diode drops) because of it.

I have used a lot of 3080s and LM13700s in my commercial pedals. Thousands over the years.
I have never had a bad one straight out of the box - but I have fried quite a few all by myself while prototyping.
I use a lot of other chips as well - and I havn't fried THOSE. Why is this so?

It's because of the current control inputs to the OTA chips. These have a very strict maximum current input - and it's pretty small.
So it's easy to accidentally short the pin to + and fry it. Takes less than a millisecond & no second chance.. most ICs will handle a momentary short to + on any pin (**DON'T TRY THIS THOUGH!**) but, the 3080 - nah.

On the bright side, they appear immune to static electricity ;-D

The only story I ever heard about 3080 problems right "out of the tube" was, one mail order supplier who ran out of them, had some delivered directly by a third party - who sent a completely different chip. Well, that was unfortunate - but you couldn't blame the 3080 for that...
