hey

i just finished putting together the Morula yesterday, an auto-wah meant for bass.  i found it at http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album107 in aron's gallery and used the layout provided to build the pedal on vero.  i didnt substitute any parts (used everything as listed in the layout/schematic).  its a normal negative ground circuit.  it looks to me like everything is in place, soldered correctly, etc. etc., and the effect works to some extent, but there are two problems.  first, there is a massive switch pop whenever i push the stomp switch, whether to switch the effect on or bypass it.  second, there is a big volume drop between the bypassed effect and the effect engaged (much softer when the effect is engaged).  the battery is good, voltage reading at 9.5 V.

i checked the voltages for all 16 pins of the ic:

1 - 9.5 V         9 - 7.5 V
2 - 7.0 V         10 - 7.0 V
3 - 7.5 V         11 - 7.0 V
4 - 7.5 V         12 - 7.5 V
5 - 7.0 V         13 - 0 V
6 - 7.0 V         14 - 7.5 V
7 - 7.5 V         15 - 7.5 V
8 - 7.5 V         16 - 0 V

Can anyone who has built this help me out and tell me what could possibly be causing these problems and how I might be able to fix them?  Thanks in advance.

Haven't built this myself, but pin 8 of the IC is Vss and therefore should be connected to ground, not at 7.5V. The "pop" also suggests there's DC at the input, so check the overall grounding of the circuit as it certainly doesn't seem to be ending up at the -ve terminal of the battery.
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

I'm pretty new to building pedals, this is my third attempt (i have a working jawari and a phuncgnosis that doesnt work that i know i need to redo).  Im not entirely sure on all of the grounding for this circuit.  i connected the negative battery terminal to the ring of the input (stereo) jack, and i have the two board ground points and the output (mono) jack sleeve all connected to the sleeve of the input jack.  is there a problem with how I have it wired and/or a way to fix the grounding to fix the volume and pop issues?  it seems like i grounded it right according to the layout, but maybe i messed up something.  scratch that, most likely i messed up something.  thanks for the help.

oskar, thanks for the tip.  that was exactly where i went wrong.  o well, guess no ill know to look for obscure cut tracks from now on.  it works great now, thanks a lot.
